A community that extends far beyond our home

At Nous Vendons Votre Maison, when we talk about community, we're not just talking about a neighbourhood, a city, or even a region.

Our community is the families we serve, our members, their families, their friends... and sometimes it stretches thousands of miles from home.

On 10 August, a powerful earthquake struck western Colombia, upending the lives of thousands of people and leaving behind bereaved families, wounded and severe humanitarian needs.

This disaster has particularly affected us since several members of our agency are from Colombia or still have family and friends living there.

This time, helping the community also meant taking care of our own large family.

A gesture of solidarity for Colombia

We have chosen to make a donation to Development and Peace – Caritas Canada, to contribute to the emergency efforts of the populations affected by the earthquake.

Thanks to its local partner, Cáritas Colombiana, the organization is able to meet the most urgent needs of the victims: food, clean water, shelter, clothing, hygiene products and medicines.

For us, it was important to act.

Because behind the images of a disaster, there are people. Parents. Children. Grandparents. Families who, in a few seconds, can see their daily lives completely turned upside down.

And when an ordeal affects the families of our own members, it affects us all.

Making a positive impact, here...and beyond

Our mission has always been to make a positive impact in the lives of the families we serve and in our community.

But a community does not necessarily have borders.

It exists wherever there are people we are connected to, wherever someone needs to be reached out, and wherever we have the opportunity to make a difference.

It is this conviction that drives us to act, year after year, with different causes, here in Quebec as elsewhere when the circumstances challenge us directly.
