June marks the beginning of summer here in Quebec with the celebration of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day.
With the restrictions of the pandemic being lifted in May, we are all hoping to celebrate Quebec’s national holiday with family and friends. Fun facts, did you know that the celebrations of Saint-Jean-Baptiste really began as a religious holiday by the French and continued when the first French settlers came to Canada? It marked the beginning of summer and I am sure the first settlers were excited to celebrate after a long cold winter.
There are documented celebrations as far back as 1636. In 1834 a French-Canadian local journalist, Ludger Duvernay attended a St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Montreal and thought the FrenchCanadian heritage should be celebrated as well. In 1925 it became the official holiday of Quebec. It has since progressed into a socio-political holiday, one that celebrates the French language and culture of our province as well as other provinces with francophone communities
With summer comes swimming and pools. A few years back I read an article stating Quebec has more homes with pools per household than any other province in Canada. While pools are great for enjoying our summers with family and friends, they come at a cost. When you make that decision to put in a pool understand that it may not be a selling feature to buyers. Below are some of the most important issues to consider when thinking about installing a pool.
To receive the complete list please give us a call at 514-830-2151 and we will send it to you. It is very important you do not overspend and put 100,000$ into your backyard if the homes in your area do not reflect this upgrade. If so, you will likely not recoup your expenses when it comes time to sell.
Of course this summer some children will be unable to enjoy the celebrations with their family such as St-Jean-Baptiste Day, reunions, or simply playing with friends due to serious medical conditions.
You may recall my team and I are on a mission to raise $5000 in 2021. We do that by donating a portion of our income from home sales to these very worthy causes
Right now, there are kids who are trying to beat Cancer and other debilitating diseases. Enfant Soleil is one of the best non-profit charities at supporting the health care services of the children in our communities. The children being treated at our Montreal hospitals are most likely NOT thinking about summer holidays this month. They are simply focusing on feeling well. God bless them for it.
