HOMEWARD BOUND - APRIL 2021

Welcome to the month of April. By the time you are reading this, April Fools Day will have passed. However, I am sure you have an amusing April Fools Day memory you like to share with family and friends. Here is one I recall. When I was a kid, one of our local radio stations, announced on the early morning news that the government had decided to switch the clocks to metric time. This is when there was a lot of grumbling from the population because we were switching from the imperial measuring system to the metric measuring system, which coincidently was to come into effect on April 1, 1975. The talk show following this big news announcement on the radio station was inundated with calls from a very upset Montreal area population, voicing their concerns all morning long. That radio station really got us good! It was hilarious at the time. Of course, at the noon news they announced, it was a big April Fool’s Joke! It still makes me laugh even after all these years.

Another BIG deal is TAX day, April 30! Yep! Deadlines for filing those personal income tax returns. I don’t think most people mind paying taxes as long as they are being put to good use. I think it is the waste that bothers most of us. Both days I mentioned above are for sure conversation starters, one full of funny stories, the other maybe not so much, but there are few days more memorable than the day you buy your first home or your dream home. That day is supposed to be fun, exciting and a great feeling of accomplishment.
