Neighborhood

A small town with lots to offer, Pointe-des-Cascades is one of the ideal spots to start a tour of the southern part of the region. With ample parking near the beginning of the Soulanges Canal bike path, cyclists, rollerbladers and walkers can easily enjoy an active day outdoors. Home to a popular summer theatre and a well-kept RV campground, Pointe-des-Cascades is a picturesque ten-minute drive from Highway 20 and Vieux Dorion. Check out the open-air anchor display and the town lighthouses before heading along the canal. The canal locks are permanently closed, creating a series of waterfalls; follow the path along the canal for great picture opportunities. From there, explore a unique wetland habitat home to mammals, migratory birds, reptiles, amphibians, and special plants; keep your eyes peeled for remnants of the area’s long history along the canal and in the woods. A lovely picnic spot, the conservation area is also popular with boaters and sport fishers.

Education

Commission Scolaire des Trois-Lacs operates Francophone schools

There is no educational institution in Pointe-des-Cascades, the students being transported to Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Lester B. Pearson School Board operates Anglophone schools

It is zoned to Birchwood Elementary School in Saint-Lazare and St. Patrick Elementary School in Pincourt.

Healthcare

Vaudreuil-Dorion has two medical clinics. Both have general practitioners and medical specialists, and accept patients without an appointment. In 2014, a new building was opened on Boulevard de la Gare. It houses the CLSC and the Vaudreuil-Dorion outpatient service centre, including a walk-in specimen collection centre.

In 2016, the Minister of Health and Social Services officially announced the location of the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital, at the intersection of highways 30 and 40, on Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes where it crosses Chemin de la Petite-Rivière. Construction could begin in the next few years.
